Interested In Planting A Garden?
The ambition to plant a garden can result from a variety of needs and desires. Commonly, the first order of business is curb appeal, or the desire to improve the look and value of one's home as the residents and visitors arrive. It rolls out the welcome mat from the front door to the street. The backyard space is often reserved for more private activities such as dining, entertaining or just relaxing in a pleasant spot.
An older residence frequently already has some garden design elements in place, but new residents may be impatient to renovate all or part of the residential garden for a whole host of reasons. Perhaps some of the existing plants are past their prime, offer too much or too little shade, are in awkward spots or simply don't suit the owner's taste. In other situations, the yard is already charming but the homeowner enjoys gardening or wishes to add some unique touches.
Different Types of Gardens
There are many options for a garden theme. People often have flower, rock, and water gardens at their homes or may have more functional goals such as providing fresh fruit, vegetables or herbs for the dinner table. Sometimes the focus revolves around a favorite type of plant or flower, such as rose or cactus and succulent gardens. The type of garden may also be dictated or limited by extremes of climate, such as exceedingly cold or arid conditions.
Preparing to Plant Your Garden
After you decide to plant your garden, the next step is determining the outcome you want. Are you doing it to be easier to care for, to grow some food crops, or just as a relaxing hobby? You may have to clear the land of weeds or remove unwanted plants and prepare the soil. Now is the time to investigate plant choices that will thrive under the prevailing conditions. Be sure to picture your garden in all the seasons so your plan offers something of interest all year around.
Whether you enjoy doing the work yourself, or prefer to just enjoy the view, a peaceful, well-planned garden will reward your efforts again and again.
